Introducing
Tom

Absor's Update

By now many of you have ripped open the bright red box and installed the game. You've probably already seen the Plane of Knowledge. Hopefully you've taken the time to explore the library Myrist. You've probably already visited the Plane of Tranquility. You may even have met a few gods.

Most of all, we hope you're enjoying what you find in the Planes of Power. The building of this expansion has been a wild ride for all of us, and we've learned a lot from doing it. As challenging as it sometimes is (as is everyone's job), it's far outweighed by the satisfaction that comes with working on this game. I wanted to thank all of you that purchased the expansion. I also wanted to thank all of our beta testers, who have been fantastic with their feedback and willingness to help.

The Planes of Power introduces several new ideas. For example, those of you entering the Plane of Nightmare for the first time will probably feel a little uneasy with the fact that you arrived in the middle of a graveyard. Sure, it's an appropriate way to enter the place where some poor souls spend their sleeping hours. But this is also a functional feature as well. Corpses are drawn to these graveyards. After a certain period of time (which varies from zone to zone) corpses in the zone will appear in the graveyard. In the Plane of Nightmare it could be argued that the corpses are just settling in to where they belong. In the Plane of Innovation these corpses are delivered to the scrap heap by giant metallic tubes.

For players this should help reduce the stress of recovering corpses after the tide turns in a battle, making the planes a bit more accessible.

Yes, the planes are a dangerous place. This expansion is geared toward the higher-level character. It allows a character to progress up to level 65 and gain interesting new Planar Advancement abilities. But it also ships with Classic EverQuest and has a few fantastic additions for every character. The Plane of Knowledge provides portals to many locations on Norrath and Luclin. It also contains the library Myrist, where any character interested in the lore of Norrath can find books to read as well as some new tradeskill recipes to try out.

So obviously if you haven't purchased The Planes of Power yet, you should. It's the bright red box on your local game store shelf; you can't miss it. :)

I also wanted to introduce you to our new Event Relations Coordinator, Tom Taylor. He'll be coordinating our events (I guess you figured that out by his title…), including Fan Faire. Everyone, meet Tom…

And this is Tom

Greetings everyone! I'm sure most of you are asking yourselves"Who is this guy and what does he have to say to us?" Well, that's partially why I am here. I'm Vannoth; I'm the newest member of Sony Online Entertainment's marketing team. I am in charge of coordinating all of the special events for SOE. Previously, I have worked as a Game Master in our Customer Service department, and more recently, I was on the EQ Invasion road tour this summer, visiting with EQ players across the country and introducing the game to new customers.

Now that you know who I am, and I'm sure you'd like to know why I'm taking up space here. I just wanted to let you know about all the cool new things that we're doing with the upcoming Fan Faire on November 8-9 in San Francisco, CA.

We are still keeping the fun things from the past Fan Faires, the Live Quest, the Bazaar, Panels, the Intel Game Room, The Grand Banquet, and much more. We're also adding some fun things, including an exclusive screening of a "Future of MMO's" film giving you a behind-the-scenes look at some upcoming SOE games and a silent auction.

Registration is still open for this Fan Faire and we're accepting more registrations for this one than any previous show. This is bound to be the biggest and best Fan Faire ever. I invite you all to come and join the thousands of other registered EverQuest players in the fun. You can get more information about this Fan Faire and register at: http://everquest.station.sony.com/fanfaire

See you there!

-Vannoth the Master of Revelry

Check Out the New Japanese and Chinese EverQuest Websites!

On October 15, So-Net ISP launched the official Japanese-language website (http://www.jp.everquest.com/) for EverQuest. The website will publish a free e-zine, EverQuest JE JOURNAL, to notify gamers of the latest developments in the popular online game. The game is slated for a February, 2003, launch in Japan.

Thanks to the combined efforts of Ubi Soft and Sony Online Entertainment, EverQuest will launch in Mainland China. Ubi.com will host and operate the game, and provide the local infrastructure necessary to bring EQ to the Chinese market. SOE will provide its already-acquired game technological expertise. In the meantime, check out the official Chinese-language website (http://www.everquest.com.cn/) for EverQuest.
